2009 Baseball

2008: Had a 5.24 ERA in 46-1/3 pitched...had a season high eight strikeouts against Palm Beach Atlantic on March 14...allowed two or fewer hits in three of his nine games he appeared in...finished the season with 43 hits allowed and 38 strikeouts.

2007: Played at St. Thomas University with current teammate Willy Hernandez...helped STU to its first-ever trip to the NAIA World Series...in his last three starts leading up to and into the playoffs he did not allow an earned run in 14-2/3 innings pitched...finished the season 3-2 throwing in 48 innings, with 44 strikeouts, and only 44 hits allowed.

JUCO: Played for Coach Steve Hertz at Miami Dade Community College...went 6-2 as a sophomore with 50 strikeouts, 19 walks, with a 1.91 ERA...led MDCC to a state tournament appearance.

High School: Prepped at Miami Sunset Senior High School under Mandy Pelaez...went 16-8 in his career...had a 2.93 ERA with 170 strikeouts...led the team to a regional appearance in 2006...earned Cy Young honors as a junior.

Personal: He is the son of Jhony Montoya and Carmen Tipps...he has one sister Diane and a brother Matthew...his favorite move is Bad Boyz...he likes the Dodgers of the 1970's and his favorite team is the Florida Marlins...his favorite movie quote: "Fly pelican."
