HENDERSON, Tenn. - Freed-Hardeman seniors Julie Bracknell, Liz Blanton and Olivia Poteete made the most of their final match at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
On senior night, Bracknell recorded her second career trick while Blanton added a goal and Poteete posted her first career clean sheet as the Lady Lions downed the University of Benedictine at Springfield (Ill.), 7-0.
The Lady Lions peppered Benedictine keeper Lindsay Taylor with shots all match long, out-shooting UBS 33-7 with a 20-6 edge on shots on goal. FHU opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Bracknell took a through ball to the left side and crossed it to Whitney Newby who one-touched it past Taylor.
After the first goal, FHU (4-8-1) had several chances but did not score again until the 29th minute Bracknell received another through ball near midfield and dribbled past a diving Taylor to record her first goal.
FHU added a third goal with 1.2 seconds on the clock at the end of the half after a Briley Collins corner kick was punched out by Taylor to the top of the box. Brittny Johnson rifled it off the bounce to the right post, narrowly beating the clock to send the Lady Lions to halftime with a 3-0 lead.
It took Bracknell one minute into the second half to get her second goal on yet another through ball, again beating Taylor in a one-on-one situation. Three minutes later, she did it again to record the hat trick.
Fellow senior Liz Blanton then got into the act in the 50th minute, taking a deflected pass behind the Bulldog defense and beating Taylor to the right post.
The final goal came in the 86th minute from Shelby Murray off a cross from Katie Hillis.
Poteete, meanwhile, was up to the task in goal with a career-high six saves in posting the clean sheet.
FHU returns to action on Tuesday with a trip to Cumberland (Tenn.) University for the final match of the regular season.
