HENDERSON, Tenn. - One year ago, the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions received quite a scare from Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University on homecoming Saturday. This year, however, there would be no dramatics.

The Lady Lions scored early and often, shooting 56 percent from the field in the game, en route to a 104-55 victory over the visiting Lady Hornets. FHU improves to 4-0 on the season with the victory.

FHU led from wire-to-wire, with Jana Cross scoring 10 of her team's first 12 points and sparking a hot start that turned into a 56-27 halftime lead. All eight of Freed-Hardeman's active players logged at least 18 minutes.

Five Lady Lions scored in double figures, led by Tara Deatheridge's 24 points. She also made a career-best six three-pointers. Cross added 22 points, while Meribeth Boehler and Hannah Parsley scored 14 apiece. Jessica Doran came off the bench to contribute 11 points. Whitney Johnson dished out a career-high 10 assists against only one turnover.

The Lady Lions now prepare for the Rotary Classic at Union (Tenn.) University next week, where they will play three nationally ranked teams in three days. They will start the classic off against No. 13 St. Xavier (Ill.) University on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7:00 PM.

Notes: Freed-Hardeman has won 13 straight homecoming games, dating back to 1995...Jana Cross moved into 12th place on the program's all-time scoring list, passing Melody Saxon and Sandy Burns...Whitney Johnson's 10 assists tied as the second-highest single-game total in program history. The last player to record 10 assists in a game was Megan Thompson on Jan. 6, 2006...Harris-Stowe has been FHU's homecoming opponent for the last three years and four of the last five.
