HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman University women's golf team landed an early commitment for the 2012-13 season with the signing of Hannah Griffin of Portland, Tenn.

Griffin is currently a senior at Portland HS where she is the No. 1 player for her high school team.  Thus far this season, she has medaled in six straight matches with a low 18-hole round of 73 and a low nine-hole round of 37.

During the summer, she shot a 72 in the opening round of the prestigious Tennessean School Days tournament to advance to the final eight match play portion of the event.  She also won the Coca-Cola Invitational with a two-day total of 161 (84-77) and the women's club championship at Dogwood Hills CC in Portland with a two-day score of 160 (78-82).

As a junior, Griffin finished tied for 16th at TSSAA Class AAA State Tournament in 2010 after shooting 161 (76-85) for the event in helping Portland to a fifth-place finish as a team.  She finished second in districts and fifth in regionals leading up to state.

"Hannah has the ability to make an enormous impact for us," said head coach John Armstrong.  "To have a player of her caliber joining us in just the second year of our program is huge.  She is not only a great player but also has amazing character and comes from a fantastic family.  The most exciting thing about Hannah is that she hasn't even scratched the surface of her potential yet."

Griffin excels off the course as well where she is a member of several clubs at Portland HS including National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, and Student Council.

Hannah is the daughter of Stephen and Amy Griffin.
