KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions will take on Lubbock Christian (Texas) University at 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 18, in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament.
The Lady Lions, on the strength of their upset win over No. 1 Union (Tenn.) for the TranSouth Conference championship, received a No. 3 seed in their quarter of the bracket. Lubbock Christian (19-11) received an at-large bid out of the Sooner Athletic Conference and is the No. 6 seed in the quarter. The Lady Chaps were ranked No. 23 in the final national poll.
This will be the second meeting between the two programs. FHU won the previous contest, 76-70, in the quarterfinals of the 2008 national tournament.
Freed-Hardeman is making its 14th consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, the third-longest streak of consecutive appearances in the nation. Lubbock is making its seventh straight trip to the tournament.
