NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jana Cross, Meribeth Boehler and Tara Deatheridge led a list of six Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion players honored by the TranSouth Conference in its postseason awards released on Wednesday, March 3.
Cross and Boehler were both first-team all-conference selections while Deatheridge was voted to the second team.
Cross averaged a team-leading 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in the regular season on her way to a fourth appearance on the first team all-conference squad. She is the first FHU player to be a first-team selection in each of her four years.
Boehler came on strong during conference play, tying Cross for the team lead in scoring against the TranSouth at 15.1 points per game in raising her season average to 14.6. The 6-foot-2 junior shot 58.1 percent from the field in the regular season, ranking seventh in the NAIA.
Deatheridge averaged 11.3 points per game while leading the team in 3-pointers (76), assists (71) and steals (62) in being voted to the all-conference squad for the second straight year.
FHU also took two of the five spots in the all-freshman team with Natalie Shumpert and Maria Bagwell being selected. Shumpert, who finished second in the voting, averaged 9.6 points per game on the season and 10.0 points per game in conference play while Bagwell scored 5.0 points and grabbed 5.4 rebounds per game.
Cross, Boehler, Deatheridge and Whitney Johnson were also named TranSouth Conference scholar athletes after meeting the qualifications for the award with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
