HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion junior varsity baseball squad opened its 2010 schedule on Thursday, dropping both ends of a double header to Dyersburg State (Tenn.) Community College.

DSCC took the first game, 20-7, and edged the Lions in the second game, 9-8.

The Eagles blew the first game open with five runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth despite collecting six hits in the two innings.

Evan Mansell hit a two-run shot in the third to put FHU on the board as part of a three-run inning.  The Lions added four more in the bottom half of the fifth before being retired in order in the sixth to end the game.

In game two, FHU jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings behind a grand slam by Storm Bates, but couldn't hold on to it as DSCC rallied to plate four in the third and three in the fourth.  After the Eagles tacked on another run in the fifth, the Lions got it back in the sixth on a two-out double by Mansell.

Josh Reynolds then stranded two runners in the top of the seventh, giving FHU a chance in the bottom half of the inning.  Daniel Riley reached on a one-out single but Andrew Yanes retired the next two batters to earn the save.

Mark Kelley had a big day at the plate for the Lions, going 4-of-7 in the two games.  Mansell was a combined 3-for-7 with four RBI.
