HENDERSON, Tenn. - Lately, the last 20 minutes of basketball games have belonged to the Freed-Hardeman Lions.

Saturday was no exception as the No. 23 Lions outscored Cumberland (Tenn.) University 37-19 in the second half to turn a four point halftime lead into a 71-49 win over the Bulldogs at the FHU Sports Center.

The win is the eighth in a row for FHU and keeps the Lions (16-7, 9-1) tied for first place in the TranSouth Conference with Union (Tenn.) University, who also won today.

The game was tightly contested for the entire first half, with neither team leading by more than six points.  CU's Adam Barnett drilled a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half to make it a 34-33 game, but shortly thereafter the Lions went on a 12-4 run to get a little breathing room with a 50-41 lead.

That, however, only set up the run that essentially decided the game.

After a Brandon Springer basket cut the lead to seven, Freed-Hardeman went on a 16-3 run and took a 66-46 lead with 7:19 to play.  Though the Lions managed just five points the rest of the way, it made little difference as the FHU defense held the Bulldogs to six points over the game's lat 13:58.

Jesse Moulton led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Kyle Teichmann with 15 points.  Logan Greer and Zack Frey each added 10 points.

FHU held Springer to eight points, his lowest total of the season.  The senior entered the game second in the NAIA in scoring, averaging 24.1 points per game.

The Lions get a week off before traveling to Jackson, Tenn., for a first-place battle with Union University at 4:00 PM.
