HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion basketball program picked up its second early signee for the 2009-2010 season with the addition of Brittney Williams of Jackson, Tenn.

Williams, a 5-foot-6 guard, is a senior at Trinity Christian Academy.  As a sophomore, she was the starting point guard for Jackson North Side and helped the Lady Indians advance to the TSSAA Class AA State Tournament while averaging 8.3 points per game and shooting 45.9 percent from three-point range.  That year, Williams was named to the all-district, all-region, and all-region tournaments teams as well as being a Jackson Sun Honorable Mention All-West Tennessee selection.

She transferred to Trinity Christian Academy for her junior season and was not eligible to play on the varsity squad due to TSSAA transfer rules but will be eligible to play her senior season.

During the spring and summer of 2007, Williams was a member of the Tennessee Wings AAU team which finished fifth in the nation.

TCA's head girls coach, Joe North, is in his first year at the school but it didn't take him long to see the kind of player Williams is.

"This [scholarship] is a tribute to Brittney," he said.  "Freed-Hardeman wouldn't sign her if they didn't know what was inside of her."

"We're thrilled with the opportunity to have her join us," said FHU head coach Dale Neal.  "She has both the ability and the character we look for in our program."

Williams came for a campus visit in the spring and was immediately drawn to the program.

"I love the girls, I love the campus, I love everything about it," she said.  "All of them have a great attitude.  And they're always really good.  Winning is important to me, and they win."

Williams is the daughter of Mike and Owessa Williams of Jackson, Tenn.
