HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion basketball team got an early start on its 2009-2010 recruiting class with the signing of Leslie Morgan of Philadelphia, Miss., to a scholarship.

FHU head coach Dale Neal first got a glimpse of Morgan, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward, at his summer basketball camp and immediately began to picture her in a Lady Lion uniform.

"I was impressed with her in so many ways.  She showed maturity beyond her years, both on and off the court," said Neal.  "We were so impressed with Leslie at camp that we would have signed her on the spot.  She exhibits all the characteristics that embody a Lady Lion basketball player.  We are elated that she has decided to join us."

As a junior at Neshoba Central High School, Morgan averaged 13.8 points per game en route to being named to the all-district team as well as receiving the team's "Best Offensive Player" award.  She was also selected to the East Central Community College Invitational all-tournament team.  She played AAU ball with the Mississippi Lady Tigers out of Jackson, Miss., for Coach Audi Norris.

"Leslie came to us as a 4-5 player and she worked very hard to strengthen her perimeter skills to play a 2-3," Norris said. "[She is a] wonderful, hard-working Christian girl.  You will not find a player that will work harder than Leslie."

In addition to her accomplishments on the floor, Morgan is also an all-district softball player and was elected as the Student Body President.  She attended Girls' State this summer as a representative of Neshoba Central High School.

Leslie attends the Union Church of Christ in Union, Miss., and is the daughter of Kirk and Dayna Morgan.
