HENDERSON, Tenn. - Tiffany Harris stopped 18 shots, tying a career high, to help the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions hold off an offensive flurry from visiting Kentucky Wesleyan College in a two-overtime, scoreless tie on Monday evening at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
FHU struggled to control the ball against the bigger and quicker NCAA Division II opponent, but the defense forced the Panthers into taking many of their shots from outside the box. When the ball got into the box, there was often a Lady Lion nearby to clear it out.
KWC's Nora Karvonen had an excellent chance to break the tie in the 72nd minute after getting behind the FHU defense, but her shot ricocheted off the left post.
Helena Yegros had a chance of her own to put FHU ahead in the 83rd minute with a shot inside the box, but Kentucky Wesleyan keeper Alanna Miller saved it near the left post.
FHU now stands at 1-1-1 on the season and will return to the field on Friday against Johnson Bible College on the opening day of the Freed-Hardeman University Lions Cup.
