Volleyball Outlasts NCAA Lane College; Notch First Win

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team notched their first win of the season Tuesday, as they outlasted NCAA neighbor Lane College for a 3-2 win at the J F Lane Gymnasium in Jackson, Tenn. (25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 15-25, 15-9)

Tuesday's win for the Lady Lions marks their fourth straight win against Lane College, a team that has become increasingly tougher to beat each season.

"We played very well against a solid Lane team," said Todd Humphry, head coach for the Lady Lion volleyball program. "It was a great environment for the match and our girls worked hard to secure the win."

The freshmen stepped up for the Lady Lions in the win, as Claire Walker led FHU on the attack with 17 kills followed by Shea Dean who pounded 12 kills of her own.

The seniors also played solid in the win, as Alex Britt compiled 13 kills while Lindsey Gordon continued her strong play with an impressive 46 assists in the match.

With the win, the Lady Lions move to 1-6 on the season. Lane College falls to 0-4 on the season with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions open conference play at home Friday, September 15th, as they host Columbia College. Match time is slated for 6:00 PM at the Brewer Sports Center.
