Alverson Takes Home AMC Runner Of The Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Following an impressive finish at the third annual Freed Speed Open held Saturday on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University, Sophomore Runner Tyler Alverson has been named the American Midwest Conference Runner of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office in St. Louis, Mo.

Alverson highlighted the week with a 1st place finish out of 59 runners Saturday at the Freed Speed Open. His time of 26:34 set a new course record for the 5-mile course.  He finished 55 seconds ahead of the second place runner, who finished with a time of 27:29.

The event hosted a variety of other NAIA schools including Bethel University, Blue Mountain College, Cumberland University and Talladega College. The Runner of the Week nod for Alverson marks the second time in his college career that he has received the honor, the other coming last season on October 10, 2016.

Other Notable Performances Around The AMC


Nicholas Rotich, Park (Mo.) – Finished first overall and helped the Pirates to a first-place finish with a 6k time of 20:01.

Schuyler Ogden, William Woods (Mo.) – Finished fourth overall at the CMU Eagle Invite with a time of 19:49 (6K).


Kimi Putnam, William Woods (Mo.) – Finished 15th overall at the CMU Eagles Invite with a time of 20:37 in her first collegiate race.
