HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion soccer team came up short Thursday, as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Bethel University at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.

The Lady Lions (2-3) attempted 12 shots and nine shots on goal in the match compared to Bethel (5-0) who attempted 10 shots and seven shots on goal in the match.

Melinda Sopka scored the lone goal in the match for Bethel, as she found the back of the net in the 52nd minute off an assist by Janine Dennis, which would be all the Wildcats needed to secure the victory and hand the Lady Lions their third loss of the season.

The Lady Lions spread their offense around nicely, as six different players attempted shots in the match including Laura Williams, Avis Van Kampen, Taylor Woods, Melissa Ross, Nina Carolissen and Samantha Clymer. Carolissen led the Lady Lions on the attack, as she attempted six shots and three shots on goal while Melissa Ross followed close behind and attempted two shots and two shots on goal.

Despite the loss, FHU keeper Erin Douglas played solid in goal, as she allowed just the lone goal in the match while saving six of the seven shots she faced.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 2-3 on the season. With the victory, Bethel University remains unbeaten and improves to 5-0 on the season.
