HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team opened their home schedule Tuesday night against Martin Methodist College and to say it was a back and forth match-up would be an understatement. However, despite playing strong the entire way, the Lady Lions could not hold on, as they fell 3-2 to the Redhawks (21-25, 25-18, 25-14, 20-25, 12-15).

However, despite the loss, Freshman Claire Walker led FHU (1-4) on the attack with an impressive 21 kills while Alex Britt pounded 10 kills of her own. Lindsey Gordon distributed the ball well, as she dished out 41 of FHU's 45 assists in the match. Reilly Fulton defended the Redhawk attack well, as she combined for 28 defensive digs in the match.

The Redhawks shared their offense nicely, as three Martin Methodist players reached double digits on the attack. Sabrie Simones led the way for Martin Methodist with 12 kills while Brittney Pepitone and Sophia Paes contributed 10 kills each in the match. Sydney Arnold dished out 28 assists for the Redhawks while Belen Albertos Acensio had 20 defensive digs in the match.

The Lady Lions found some momentum early in the match, as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first set. However, Martin Methodist would not go down without a fight, as they erased the deficit and evened things up at 10 apiece midway through the frame. The Redhawks; however, continued to pull away, as they took the first set 25-21.

However, despite dropping the first set, the Lady Lions were not discouraged, as they were able to find some momentum and take the second set convincingly. Similar to the first set, the Lady Lions jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Redhawks were able to muster a point. Martin Methodist would slowly chip away at the lead, but would not be able to repeat history, as the Lady Lions put together an impressive scoring run to take the second set 25-18.

The third set was much of the same for the Lady Lions, as they once again jumped out to an early lead and pulled ahead at the 9-2 mark. However, the Redhawks would not make it easy on FHU, as they erased the deficit once again to pull within two points at the 15-13 mark. From there; however, the Lady Lions would take over, as they rattled off nine unanswered points to pull ahead 24-13 on their way to a 25-14 third set victory.

Martin Methodist came storming back in the fourth set, as they jumped out to a 12-5 lead and extended their lead further at the 18-9 mark. However, the Lady Lions would put together a run of their own, as they rattled off six unanswered points to close the gap to three points at the 18-15 mark. From there; however, the Redhawks out-hit the Lady Lions 7-5 on their way to a 25-20 fourth set victory to force a fifth and final set.

The final set was reflective of the entire match, as it went back and forth from the start. However, the Redhawks were able to find some separation midway through the set, as they put together a run of three straight points to pull ahead by three at the 13-10 mark on their way to a 15-12 set win for the match.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 0-5 on the season. Martin Methodist improves to 4-1 on the season with the win.
