NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Freed-Hardeman University capped off what was arguably its most successful athletic year in school history by finishing second in the TranSouth Conference's all-sports trophy competition.
The second-place finish is the highest that Freed-Hardeman has placed since the trophy's inception in 2001.
FHU used the strength of a conference championship in volleyball and second-place finishes in men's and women's basketball and softball to accumulate 5.786 points to come in just behind Union (Tenn.) University, which won its sixth consecutive trophy with 6.050 points.
The TranSouth All-Sports Trophy is awarded to the program that produces the most success during the school year in all sports. Points are awarded for how each team finishes in the regular season standings in each sport. The point total for each school is then divided by the number of sports in which the school participated to reach the average.
