HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team kicked off a big week of signings with the additions of Mark Kelley of Dickson, Tenn., and Mark Vanhorn of Tuscumbia, Ala.
Kelley, a 5-foot-11 shortstop, prepped at Dickson Co. HS under Coach Ray Ragan. As a senior, he hit .351 with 16 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .435. He also went 4-2 on the mound with 30 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched.
"Mark is a nice addition to our offense," said FHU head coach Patrick McCarthy. "With some time and experience at the college level, he will be able to make an impact for us."
He is the son of Gregory and Tammy Kelley.
Vanhorn, a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher, played at Mars Hill Bible School under Coach Jay Mitchell, who played at Freed-Hardeman in the early 1990's. He finished his senior season with a record of 4-3 and a 1.80 ERA.
"Mark is a big, lanky right-hander who throws hard," McCarthy said. "We want him to come in right away and get some innings and experience under his belt. We are looking forward to seeing him in a Lion uniform."
He is the son of Kenneth and Robin Vanhorn.
