HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team keeps getting stronger for the upcoming season.
Last week, the Lady Lions added to what was already a top-notch recruiting class by signing Jessica Light of Dyersburg, Tenn.
Light, a 5-foot-8 guard, prepped at Dyersburg HS under Coach Randy Coffman where she was a two-time all-district selection and was also named to the all-district tournament team. As a senior, she averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per game as the leader of a very young Lady Trojan team. During her career at Dyersburg, she surpassed 900 points, 300 rebounds, 300 assists, and 300 steals.
She was listed among the top 35 seniors in the state of Tennessee by Rick Bolus's recruiting rankings.
"Her ability to create for herself gives us the added offensive dimension we've been looking for," said FHU head coach Dale Neal.
"We believe that this is a perfect fit for both our program and for Jessica," added assistant coach Lain Hinson.
Light joins Natalie Shumpert (Tilghman HS/Paducah, Ky.), Brittney Williams (Trinity Christian/Jackson, Tenn.), Leslie Morgan (Neshoba Central HS/Philadelphia, Miss.), and Summer Waggoner (Forrest HS/Chapel Hill, Tenn.) in Freed-Hardeman's recruiting class.
The Lady Lions went 25-9 last season and advanced to the NAIA Sweet 16. They hold the third-longest streaks in the NAIA for consecutive 20-win seasons (13) and consecutive national tournament appearances (13).
