BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions avoided what would be been the unlikeliest of upsets on Saturday afternoon.

FHU overcame an eight-point deficit with 56.3 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, where they would stave off the upset bid of Blue Mountain (Miss.) College, 109-105.

Freed-Hardeman grabbed a season-high 72 rebounds but also committed a season-high 30 turnovers, which allowed the Toppers to make a run that put them ahead 90-81 with 1:45 left.  BMC still held a 95-87 lead just inside one minute to play but FHU closed out with a 9-1 run.

In overtime, Blue Mountain took a three-point lead before FHU finally pulled away with a 7-0 run.

Kristoffer Smith led all scorers with 28 points while Zack Frey added 27 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.  Tyler Jennings had 15 points and eight rebounds in 11 minutes of action.  Logan Greer added 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds off the bench.

Freed-Hardeman (19-6, 10-1) returns to action on Thursday against Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at the Sports Center at 8:00 PM.
