JACKSON, Tenn. - One way or another, one streak was coming to an end.
And one did in a rather convincing fashion.
The Freed-Hardeman Lions extended their winning streak to 11 games, and in the process snapped an 11-game skid against the Lambuth (Tenn.) Eagles, with a dominating 83-61 win at the Lambuth Athletic Center on Thursday night. FHU, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, improves to 18-6 on the season while Lambuth drops to 13-8.
Freed-Hardeman led wire-to-wire and kept a double digit lead after Tyler Jennings' basket put FHU ahead 32-21. The Lions led by as many as 15 in the first half and took a 41-27 lead into halftime after Logan Greer nailed a deep 3-pointer as time wound down.
The second half started with FHU scoring six straight points to take a 21 point lead with just over 17:00 left but Lambuth went on an 11-3 run over the next two minutes to pull within 13 at 51-38.
If the Eagles had any thoughts of duplicating their comeback from 17 points down earlier in the year against FHU, the Lions dashed them rather quickly. Freed-Hardeman answered with a 23-6 run to take a 30 point lead (74-44) inside the 8:00 mark, the rally punctuated by back-to-back 3-pointers from Shun Trevillian.
From there, FHU head coach Jason Shelton was able to get his reserves extra minutes as the Lions cruised to the win.
Freed-Hardeman shot 49.2 percent from the field while holding Lambuth to a season-low 31.7 percent shooting. Jesse Moulton hit four of Freed's 10 3-pointers and led all scorers with 16 points. Tyler Jennings added 10 off the bench while Trevillian, Kristoffer Smith, and Kirtiss Brown each added nine.
The Lions return to action on Saturday as they travel to Blue Mountain (Miss.) College for a 4:00 PM tipoff.
