HENDERSON, Tenn. - Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University scored twice in the eighth inning of the first game of a double-header, then scored nine times in the nightcap to sweep the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions, 3-1 and 9-4, on Friday evening.
FHU (15-16, 8-10) scored in the bottom of the first of game one to take a lead it would hold until the sixth inning when TNU (24-10, 13-3) tied the game off of reliever Savannah Cole. Trevecca then scored twice in the top of the eighth, while Riley Mashburn stranded the tying run at second in the bottom of the frame to earn the win for the Trojans.
Mercedes Norfork drove in the Lady Lions' lone run with an RBI single in the first. Sarah Elizabeth Cousar went 2-for-4 and also worked four scoreless innings as the starter before giving way to Cole.
Game two started the same way that the first game did as Amber Vansandt drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Cousar. However, Lauren Baker pitched out of the jam and left the bases loaded.
The Trojans had a big third inning with four hits and four runs, but FHU battled back to tie the game with two runs in the third and another in the fifth.
Trevecca, though, scored late again, taking the lead with a run in the sixth and pulling farther ahead with four runs in the seventh.
Cousar and Bailey Morgan both had two hits in the nightcap. Cole (0-3) took the loss in both ends of the double-header.
FHU returns to action on Saturday hosting Blue Mountain (Miss.) College at 1:00 PM.
