BATESVILLE, Ark. - Freed-Hardeman head coach Jason Shelton went with a slightly different starting five for Thursday night's game at Lyon (Ark.) College, and it paid off.

Verkeneo Mann scored a game-high 20 points in his first start as a Lion, leading FHU to an 87-68 win over the Scots in Batesville.

Mann, a sophomore transfer from Tennessee State University, scored 13 in the first half as the Lions (14-7, 4-3) built a 44-25 lead at the break.  FHU led by as many as 26 points in the second half and held a 24-point lead with 7:54 to play before the Scots went on a 13-0 run.

A 3-pointer from Jonathan Milewski broke the scoring drought, and the Lions created more space in the final minutes by scoring the final eight points of the game.

Mann started in place of the sidelined Chandler Mack, while freshman Vincent Dotson also got his first career start.  Dotson scored four points in 11 minutes while saddled with foul trouble.

Kyle Teichmann added 16 points for FHU while Milewski had 12 and Anthony Sampson scored 10.

The Lions return to the Brewer Sports Center on Saturday to face Bethel (Tenn.) University at 4:00 PM.
