HENDERSON, Tenn. - One-point games are becoming a common occurrence for the Freed-Hardeman Lions during conference play.

Unfortunately, the Lions came up on the short end of a one-point game for the third time losing to Mid-Continent (Ky.), 78-77, on Saturday afternoon in the Brewer Sports Center.

FHU (13-7, 3-3) had a chance to win but Jonathan Milewski's 3-pointer from the left corner with three seconds left landed short, and Mid-Continent was able to run the clock out after a long pass downcourt.

Playing from behind for most of the game, FHU rallied to take the lead with 7:05 remaining on a Milewski jumper, but the Cougars stayed within a possession the rest of the way and eventually retook the lead with 36 seconds left after a traditional 3-point play by Charles Peden.

The Lions then missed two chances on their end, and Chris Ferguson was fouled on a rebound with six seconds to play.

Ferguson, though, missed the front end of a one-and-one to give FHU a chance to take the last shot.

The Cougars (3-16, 2-4) started the game off hot, shooting 54.1 percent in the first half and finished shooting 48.4 percent, 11 percentage points above their season average.  FHU, meanwhile, managed just 40.3 percent from the floor including 36.1 percent in the second half, and went an uncharacteristic 9-of-19 from the free throw line.

Freed-Hardeman trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half before fighting back to take the lead.

Milewski led the Lions with 20 points while Daniel Gravatt and Chandler Mack each had 13.  Kyle Teichmann was held to a season-low 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting.

FHU travels to face Lyon (Ark.) College on Thursday at 8:00 PM.
